How To Wash Silk Quilt

Silk quilts are a luxurious addition to any bedroom. They are also a bit more delicate than other quilts, so it’s essential to know how to wash them properly. This article will show you how to clean a silk quilt in the washing machine and dryer.

Remove the Quilt from the Bed

If the quilt is not a bedspread, there are likely two methods for removing it from the bed.

The first option is to remove the ties that hold it in place and then pull it off the bed. If the quilt is a bedspread, there may be tabs at one or both ends that you can pull to release it from its binding.

Once it’s free, you can fold it in half and hang it on a coat hanger to dry or put it in a washing machine with mild detergent and cold water.

Washing Machine Method

Washing silk quilts in a machine is an excellent option for those who have limited time or space. The device will take care of the washing and drying for you, freeing up your time to do other things.

There are a few things to keep in mind when washing a silk quilt in a machine:

  • Choose the correct type of machine. A front-load washer will be more gentle on your quilt than a top-load washer, but both will work.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for adding detergent and fabric softener.
  • Check the temperature of the water before adding your quilt to the machine. It should range from warm to hot, but never too hot or cold.

Step By Step

  1. Locate the washing machine’s agitator in the top section.
  2. Place the dirty clothes in the washing machine and start the engine.
  3. Find the “Wash Cycle” button on your machine and press it.
  4. Choose the “Heavy Soil” or “Normal Soil” option and press the start button.
  5. The machine will begin to agitate and wash the clothes. Keep an eye on the water level, as it will fill up quickly.
  6. Once the cycle is complete, remove the clothes and hang them to dry. If the quilt is large, it may need to be divided into several pieces to fit in the machine.

Dryer Method

The dryer method is the quickest and easiest way to dry a silk quilt. You’ll need to prepare the quilt by removing all the batting and fabric layers.

Then, place the quilt in the dryer on low heat for about 30 minutes. Make sure to rotate the quilt every 15 minutes, so it doesn’t get too hot or too cold.

Step by Step

  1. Locate the dryer’s lint filter in the top section and remove it by pulling on the top.
  2. Place the quilt in the dryer and start it on low heat.
  3. Pull down on one corner of the quilt to hang flat and cover most of the drum inside of your dryer.
  4. Wait until all moisture has been removed from the quilt, then replace the lint filter and screw it back into place.
  5. Please turn off your dryer and remove your quilt from inside, rolling it up and placing it back in its original packaging.

Whether you choose the washing machine or dryer method, follow these steps for the best results. Thanks for reading!
