Color Palette: How to Choose Colors For Your Projects

What is Color Palette?

A color palette is a collection of colors used to create an image. You can make it by using the color picker or any other tool like Photoshop, Gimp, etc.

What is the purpose of colors?

Colors are essential in creating images because they help define the mood and feel of your design. Colors also make it easier for users to find what they’re looking for on your site.

For example, if you have a product page with many different products, having all of them in one color makes it easy for visitors to navigate through the page.

How do I choose my colors?

  1. Choose a base color (usually white). This will be the background color of your website.
  2. Pick two more colors from the same color family as the base color. These should be darker than the base color but not too dark. If you want to add some contrast, try choosing a lighter shade.
  3. Add one more color from another color family. Try to avoid adding too much variety at once since this might get confusing for users.

How to use colors in design

  1. Use colors to set up a mood. You can choose colors based on the season, time of day, weather, holidays, etc. You can even select colors based on your personal preferences. There’s no right or wrong way to choose colors, so experiment until you find something that works for you!
  2. Use colors to draw attention to certain parts of your design. People tend to notice things that stand out. So if you want to emphasize a particular piece of your plan, consider making it a brighter color than the rest of your page.
  3. Use colors to represent information. These could be social media icons, links, buttons, etc. Information will usually stand out better when it has a unique color.
  4. Use colors to make your design look professional. Brand design guidelines suggest using only three or four colors per page. However, nothing stops you from using as many colors as you’d like! Remember that too many colors may distract people from reading your content.
  5. Use colors to highlight key features. A bright color on a section of text can help users focus their attention there. People often read the text first before scanning the whole page.

  2. Use color to highlight essential elements. When designing websites, you’ll often need to highlight crucial aspects such as links, buttons, forms, navigation bars, etc. By highlighting these elements, you can make them easier to spot and distinguish from other parts.
  3. Use color to create a visual hierarchy. Visual hierarchy refers to how well-organized a webpage looks. The most prominent items on a page have higher priority than less prominent ones. For example, headlines and subheadlines appear above paragraphs, while images appear below text. Color plays a vital role in creating visual hierarchy by helping us understand where different types of objects belong.
